Como ya es costumbre, cada año al finalizar la E3, los medios especializados se encargan de evaluar y seleccionar lo mejor de la conferencia. Es la asociación de críticos de videojuegos (que está conformada por más de 30 medios en Estados Unidos), la encargada de hacer estas nominaciones, que ya han sido dadas a conocer.
Varias de las categorías de este año están bastante reñidas, pues entre ellas están títulos que de veras merecen el lugar, incluso regresan a la lista nombres que han sido grandes ausentes en años pasados, (como PES). Titan Fall agradó mucho al público, y es por eso que tiene 6 nominaciones en su haber, juegos como Destiny y Watch Dogs están compitiendo con 5 nominaciones, Battlefield 4 y Batman: Arkham Origins poseen 3 nominaciones.
Del otro lado de la moneda, tenemos juegos que serán grandes ausentes en las nominaciones de este año, pues no tuvieron ningún demo jugable durante la conferencia, como son: The Division, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, The Witcher III y Super Smash Bros. (Wii-U).
Incluso hay categorías que se han dejado de lado, como pueden ser «Mejor juego de peleas» y «Mejor título de simulación por movimiento», pues estas no contaban con los contendientes necesarios para que pudieran ser consideradas.
